Review
The Landmark collection comprises work done by some of the most influential illustrators and artists of the 21st century.
Herb Ryman, The Brothers Hildebrandt, Phil Mendez, William Stout, Greg Damron, Rebecca Mills, Richard Guiterrez, Ed Sotto
and Raul Rodriguez are just a few of the artists’ works that are now available to collectors of fine art.
Herb Ryman is the original designer of Disneyland and is considered one of the greatest conceptual theme park designers in
history. Walt Disney was impressed with his talent and used his great skill as an artist, to translate his vision of the magical
kingdom. He worked extensively with the Landmark Entertainment Group in creating beautiful watercolor images for many of their
theme parks and was influential in recruiting Richard Guiterrez and Ed Sotto. Both Richard Guitterez and Ed Sotto worked on
Puroland for Sanrio (Hello Kitty trademark) in Japan and Caesar’s magical Empire in Las Vegas. Richard Guitterz said,
“ I liked working on Caesar’s Magical Empire because it was created for Julius Caesar by great magicians and sorcerers
throughout the world.” He saw Herb Ryman and other artists as these magicians. It is a beautiful example of art reflecting
life.
The Brothers Hildebrandt who are best known for the Star Wars original poster and in creating the calendars for J.R.R Tolkien’s
Lord of the Rings, worked extensively with the Landmark Group in designing the Wizard of Oz theme park in Kansas. Greg and
Tim Hildebrandt also won the Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators for their artistry and these original limited edition
pieces are highly valued.
Greg Damron also worked on Land of Oz but his work is also seen in the designs of Universal Studios in Japan and Malaysia.
He helped to create the Lost City of Dubai and the Santiago Resort. Some of these works can also be seen on his website damrondesign.com.
Phil Mendez is another famous pioneer in animation. He is the first black artist to be hired @ Disney and Hannah Barbara.
His work on The Futuristic World of Hanna Barbara and his numerous characters developed for the Landmark Group are very valued
commodities. He is sited as influencing every modern day illustrator because of his drawing style and sense of invention.
He has also written a book titled, The Black Snowman.
Another great character designer for Landmark is Rebecca Mills. Her imaginative creatures are wonderful examples of landmark’s
diversity of projects and creativity. Rebecca developed the Snugglebums toy line and also characters for the children’s’
television program.
William Stout is also a very prolific artist and he lived in Antarctica, which influenced his love of dinosaurs and other
creatures He is sited by George Lucas as being the major influence in creating the movie Jurassic Park. William helped to
design the Jurassic Park ride and also worked on several Universal Studio related designs.
Raul Rodriguez’s original works comprise many of the pieces in the collection. He is best known for his flamboyant style
and in creating breathtaking floats for the Rose Parade. There are several large-scale works and also smaller pieces that
are now being offered to the avid collector.
All of these artists and many more comprise the powerful images that reflect the Landmark Entertainment Group collection.
These pieces are so valuable because they capture the work of the pioneers of illustration, theme park, and entertainment
design.
