"Point Loma Litter Garden" 2000, San Diego, CA
"Point Loma Litter Garden", was a site-specific action of which trash was painted on and around the freeway entrance to Interstate 8. The area is surrounded by reservoirs and is considered an environmentally friendly community. This particular location was covered in litter left by commuters on their way "out of Point Loma". The trash was painted with yellow spray paint over a period of two days. The mounding trash acted as a rapidly growing garden. From the distance the yellow trash appeared as flowers in relation to it's ice plant bedding. Even the local highway patrol amazed at its growth and felt the need to participate in some way. The officer, suggested a citation of sorts however, there is not yet a law preventing the painting of public litter. The garden, lasted a little over two weeks before it was deconstructed by city collaborators.
