Exhibitions: A Brief Statement
I've always applied a great deal of passion and discipline to all the projects I have been fortunate enough to work on.
One of my primary goals has always been that the event itself is experiential and socially productive. In that, most everyone leaves with more than they came with. I've been very successful in this endeavor. Another important concern of mine is creating an environment that fosters an intimate viewer art relationship and allows for a thorough exploration of the work. Often times this is implemented by the way the work is presented. I have always been inspired by the first major exhibition of abstract expressionists at the Guggenheim Museum, NY. The paintings were too massive to hang on the curved walls, so they placed them on rotating easels. Viewers were invited to move them around at will.
I hope to also educate and inform the viewer through the "experience" of the art. This is done, in part, by creative marketing that targets a more diverse reader. As well as text and spoken descriptions of the work "that speak to a larger audience". This is an issue of language pedagogy that excludes various groups of people from truly receiving the work. In many cases, when the work actually deals with that very group! It is a fine line, but I feel a certain responsibility in doing so. It is important for me that the art presented communicate "to everyone"! I believe this approach is a wise one. Resulting in a broader cultural community and collectors base.
