Exhibitions: A Brief Statement
I have always applied a great deal of passion and discipline to all the projects I am fortunate enough to work on. My primary concern in terms of exhibition is to create an environment that is experiential, socially productive and fosters an intimate viewer art relationship. One that invites a sincere and thorough exploration of the work, leaving the viewer stimulated and enriched with more than they came with. In addition, I hope to educate and inform the viewer through the "experience" of art.
This is done, in part, by creative marketing that targets a more diverse reader and provides text and spoken descriptions of the work "that speak to a larger audience". This is an issue of pedagogy that excludes various groups of people from truly receiving the work, when the work actually deals with that very group! It is important for me that the art presented communicates "to everyone"! I believe this approach is a wise one, resulting in a broader cultural community and collectors base.
I am truly inspired by the first major exhibition of abstract expressionists at the Guggenheim Museum, NY. The paintings were too massive to hang on the curved walls, so they placed them on rotating easels. Viewers were invited to move them around at will.
