Inspired by the experimentation and spontaneous quality of Fluxus "hapennings" as well as the expressive and interactive qualities of Burning Man.

Hotels/Motels 2003, was a multimedia/interdisciplinary event in which a number of artists and individuals transformed the Travelodge hotel in downtown San Diego. Each of the thirty rooms had become a series of portals into strange thought provoking environments. Visual artists exhibited installation, painting, sculpture, photography, and other media. Some rooms had been be converted into alternative performance spaces for spoken word, performance, and music. Musical genres ranged from acoustic, punk, hip-hop, to the more experimental. Two rooms, were open venues to poets, bands, acoustic musicians and activists. I provided a PA and an open microphone to anyone who was willing to be heard. The audience was encouraged but not required to bring actual artwork, portfolios and writings of any kind. In addition, they were invited to show their photo albums, project video, bring instruments, monologues, songs, dance, and anything else that they would like to share.

The goal of the event was to provide a very intimate and accessible environment for individuals to share their work with the community.
